Your Dog's Bill of Rights
If
you have chosen to bring a dog into your family, it is your responsibility to
see that you meet all of his needs. One of the most important of these is love.
Training helps build trust and affection between you and your dog. It helps you
to learn how to communicate with him in a positive way. Training shows you how
to be gentle and fair instead of frustrated and harsh. Dogs also have the right
to be healthy and happy.
The following Bill of Rights lists what your dog needs in order
to remain your healthy, happy, cooperative canine friend.
All dogs deserve and are entitled to:
-
Healthy Food. A
well-balanced, nutritional diet provides your companion with the necessary vitamins,
minerals, and proteins needed to maintain a healthy body condition.
-
Secure Environment.
Dogs are den animals; you will never find a wolf in an open field, you will find
him happily curled within a warm den. Provide your dog with a sense of security
and get him a crate and put a blanket inside.
-
Stimulation. Every
dog needs a job; it is vital to their mental health and helps release pent up
energy in a positive way...and also allows you to bond daily with your pet.
-
Socialization. Allow
your dog to meet people and other animals in various environments.
-
Play. Very important
to your dog's overall health...not just physically, but mentally and emotionally
as well.
-
Peace and Quiet.
Think you're the only one who needs peace and quiet? Wrong! Dogs need their share
too! A second reason to give them a den.
-
Companionship. Dogs
are very loyal beings. They love being around people! Give them plenty of love
and attention...they're family too.
-
A job. All dogs
need a job, or they can get into trouble very quickly and easily. The number one
cause of destruction? Boredom!
-
Understanding. Your
dog does not know English...it needs to be taught. Your dog wants more than anything
to please you and receive praise from you, he just doesn't always know how. Training
your dog will bond you two together and create an understanding that will last
a lifetime.
-
Exercise. Dogs are
very active creatures. To maintain health and happiness, daily runs are a must.
And don't just stick to leash-walking...how would you like to be on a leash all
the time? Once you've established some Basic training with your new pet, take
them to a dog park or field daily and let them really stretch their legs!
30 minutes a day goes a really long way!
Remember...Training brings rewards that will last
a lifetime!
