Rally-Obedience
What is Rally-O?
Rally-O was officially recognized as a competitive AKC
sport in 2003. Its popularity rocketed due to its fun nature and can now be
easily described as one of the most joyful sports to compete in.
There are about 50 different exercises to learn
and practice
but what a lot of people find attractive about this
sport is that you can talk, praise, and encourage your dog as much as you
want... as long as you do not touch your dog at any time. "Perfect" heel position
is not required, but the dog and handler should represent a focused team at all
times. Any loud corrections or intimidating signals are penalized.
There
are three AKC levels to title in: Rally Novice, Rally Advanced, and Rally
Excellent. Rally Novice is performed on-leash; the other two are performed
off-leash. Exercises vary in their difficulty according to level.
The sequence of each course is dictated by
the judge and the only question that the judge will
ask is, "Are you ready?" The rest is up to you!
Knowledge of signs, paces and exercises are all performed without direction from
the judge. Dog and handler must travel at a brisk, but steady, pace. Exercises
can even be repeated if not appr
opriately performed. The top four times, however, are
awarded places.
Angelcare
has designed classes to help you and your dog learn the basics about Rally
before you enter the ring. Rally-O is not simple or necessarily easy, but it is fun and freeing. We recommend a previous
beginning obedience class or lessons so that your dog is prepared to further
the exercises required. We look forward to helping you and your dog Rally to
Excellent!
