Puppy Class

 

        Purpose:  To build a foundation of good communication between the puppy and their human family by introducing basic obedience commands, socialization skills and basic manners. This class will develop a happy, thinking puppy who enjoys learning, working with people, and is fun to be around!

 

        Content:  The class is 7 weeks long, one hour per week. The first class night is an Orientation period that meets from 6 - 9p.m. Class will resume at its scheduled time the following week. Commands that are taught include: Sit, Down, Stand, Come, Stay, Heel. Manners include: Housebreaking, Proper Greetings, Basic Grooming, and the Chewing Factor ("what I Can and Can't chew"). Socialization is done through supervised puppy playtimes and in the final week of class there will be a puppy graduation class, where your puppy could be the Top Dog and receive an Angelcare trophy of accomplishment!

 

        Teaching Method:  Puppy class is taught with positive motivation and reinforcement techniques using food, verbal and physical praise. There are four phases to dog training: Teaching, Training, Proofing, and Trailing. Puppy class covers teaching, with some training.

 

        Equipment:  You will need a flat collar, a 6-foot lead (we recommend leather), a fanny pack/bait bag, training treats and/or toys.

 

 

Families are more than welcome to participate, so bring the kids!
