Obedience Vocabulary:

 

These are some helpful terms to use and although you may use different terms, please keep in mind what you are saying, and when, so you do not confuse your dog or teach him commands that are opposite of what you actually desire.

 

 

OFF:    You belong on all four paws; you are invading space you do not belong in.

 

GO POTTY: This is an okay spot for you to use the bathroom.

 

LEAVE IT:   Do not look at, touch, or smell that.

 

GET IT:   You MAY look at, touch, or smell that.

 

SIT:   Sit and watch me, wait for the next command.

 

DOWN:   Lay down.

 

STAND: Stand for Exam / Stand Stay

 

STAY:   Do not move from that exact spot/position until I say it's okay.

 

WAIT:   Do not follow me, but when I am gone, you may do whatever it was you were doing.

 

WATCH/LOOK: Look at me. Watch my face.

 

COME:   Come and sit in front of me. Watch me until I tell you what I want next.

 

OUT:   Do not bite that / Let go

 

SAY HI:   Your paws should remain on the floor at all times while I or someone else meets you.

 

HUP:   To jump onto or off of the table, couch, etc.

 

EASY:   Be gentle. Do not snatch the treat; do not pull so hard.
