Hello
to all you pet lovers out there! Angelcare would like to give you a warm welcome
and take this great opportunity to inform you of the current classes offered here
at the Academy.
First off, we'd like to introduce you to the instructors at the Academy. Our lead instructor Dr. Melodie Limpach oversees all K-9 instructional programs and has been training competitively since 1976. She holds a degree in veterinary medicine, and has special training in ethology - the study of animal behavior.
Julie Westphal has been training at Angelcare since May of 2002. She has competed in AKC and Schutzhund since October 2004. She currently instructs all level obedience classes, Tracking, Fun Obedience, Tricks & Games, as well as Rally-O. She oversees the Daycare and Boarding School Programs. Previous to Angelcare, Julie worked at a local pet store teaching basic handling exercises and starting Puppy Manners on over 45 puppies per week.
Deanna Mattek has been instructing Agility classes since the Summer of 2005. She loves the sport and brings to every course the non-stop thrill of fun and competition agility.

As you can see, we offer a variety of options for training your companion. We focus on positive-motivational and reinforcement training and are well-skilled in allowing your dog to actually figure out and LEARN what is expected of them. What makes us different is that we will help you teach your dog to willingly and happily work for you. Attitude is everything...let Angelcare K-9 Academy help you discover the joys of having an obedient, and happy, dog!
Puppy Obedience & Basic Obedience Classes:
These classes are designed with your dog's mentality and age in mind. Puppy Class is for dogs 8 weeks to 5 months and Basic Obedience Class is designed for dogs over 5 months. All of your foundation cues are discussed: Sit, Down, Stay, Walking Nice on a leash, Targeting, Watch, Proper Greetings, Name Recognition / Recalls, the "Chewing Factor", and if you're having trouble with any other issues we are more than willing to discuss those. Focused discussions include: Proper use of clicker, food or other secondary reinforcers, House Training, Crate Training, Hide and Seek Games to teach your dog to respect its freedom, and discussions on proper exercise, tooth-brushing, pilling, nail trimming, and applying ear or eye ointment. Fun and fast paced, this starter class is for everyone!
This class was designed with everyday, and not so everyday, tricks and games in mind. Designed for all ages and abilities, dog and human, the purpose is to build and continue a solid, and fun, foundation of communication between dog and owner by introducing fun obedience cues. Some fun cues taught may include: Gimme Paw, Wave, High-Five, Double High-Five, Hugs, Kisses, Bang! Dead Dog, Belly Up, Roll Over, Get It, Leave It, Target, and many, many, more! Some fun agility obstacles may be included for jump chute obedience relays, tunnel fun (as seen below), and others. Can't make it every week or just want to try a day? Walk-ins are welcome in this class!
Intermediate and Advanced Obedience Seminars:
These
jam-packed, fun-filled, 4 hour seminars are held every month, usually on a Saturday
or Sunday. Dogs with prior obedience and clicker training may attend. Seminar
topics are determined by class attendees and are directed toward advanced competition
obedience as well as fun distance obedience. Topics may include advanced Targeting,
Beginner Tracking, Competition Obedience, Obedience Through
Agility, etc.
Advanced Obedience / Canine Good Citizen
Classes:
This class is for proofing
your dog's obedience and combines advanced obedience, agility, manners and socialization.
Geared toward complete off-leash obedience, this class is for dogs
who have successfully completed prior obedience and
clicker training. Angelcare offers Canine Good Citizen
Tests for those who wish to receive a CGC title on their dog.
Agility I & II Classes:
A
favorite at Angelcare, these classes
introduces all of the Agility Obstacles
in 6
easy weeks. Your K-9 companion will learn to tunnel, hup
(jump), go over, weave, and maneuver
the dog walks with confidence
and ease. Some extensions include
the
A-Frame, bridge, and various other obstacles
encountered in competition that teach coordination, head-end awareness, and speed confidence.
Rally-O
There are about 50 different exercises to learn and practice in Rally, but what a lot of people find attractive about this sport is the fact that you can talk to, verbally praise and encourage your dog as much as you want...as long as you do not touch your dog at any time. We recommend a previous beginning obedience class or lessons so that your dog is prepared to further the basic cues required. We look forward to helping you and your dog Rally to Excellent!
Tracking & Protection
Tracking requires the dog to meticulously follow the same scent and not run off in the many directions of other scents. Often this must also be done under less than ideal circumstances with difficult ground cover, bad weather conditions and even an aged track. The instructors at Angelcare can help teach you how to encourage your dog for sport, Schutzhund, Search and Rescue, or even just for fun!
Protection training is grossly misunderstood by the general public. A common misconception regarding protection training is associating it with attack training. This is not the case! What protection training does teach your dog...is control. Your dog already knows how to bite, whether you want to believe it or not. Police dog training differs from Schutzhund and Ringsport, which differs from actual guard dog or personal protection training.
Private Lessons / Obedience Head-Start Lessons:
This
option is open for dogs of all ages and training backgrounds. You'll
receive one-on-one instruction to help
enhance your human-animal bond. An initial 60-90 minute behavior consultation
may be done to assess current ability and to formulate a game plan for training.
From Obedience
to Destructive Behavior to Aggression issues, the Angelcare
K-9 Academy instructors can help.
Boarding School:
This option is for anyone who
would like the trainers of Angelcare to put a foundation on their dog while the
dog is boarded with us, usually for a minimum of 3 weeks. Intensive one-on-one training with
our instructors is done on a daily basis. We also include a private lesson for every week that the dog stays,
so that you feel comfortable with all of the training that we have done, and so
that you may ask any questions you may have. Weekly updates can be given and our
instructors may even recommend a longer training period for proofing or advancement,
depending on the dog's placement and progress.
We hope you will take advantage
of the exciting educational opportunities available at Angelcare K-9 Academy.
As always, if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact
